in rainbows.

yesterday i spent the afternoon at the de young with some friends. i was waiting for the david hockney exhibit for a couple of months so i was really excited to check it out. it was amazing! seriously, i was smiling the whole time. as a matter of fact, i think i’m going to have to check it out a second time before the exhibition ends in january. going to museums is a favorite pastime of mine. therefore, i finally took advantage of the teacher discount and got a membership to the de young and the legion of honor. now i can go as often as i want and special exhibits will not cost nearly as much. also, i figure when i start graduate school (still applying… stressful)  i can study at the cafe and then walk around the museum afterwards. win/win.

i thought this graphic rainbow colored painting was the perfect backdrop for an outfit shot. ah, i wish i could hang it in my apartment. anyway, i’m off today so it’s time to take advantage of the weather and go for a hike. tata!

a few weeks back i was walking down melrose with my mom and sister when i was stopped by a photographer who works for vogue japan for an outfit photo. they chose my outfit and posted it here on vogue japan! i just have to say this news made my afternoon!

palm springs.

i had the BEST time last weekend celebrating my birthday with my dear friend lerrie and a bunch of new friends. they were all so awesome and we had so much fun together. the only one missing was our best friend chime. lerrie and i really missed her.

we stayed at the ace hotel (thanks to kenneth!) and spent most of our time hanging out by the pool. it was really relaxing and the people were amazing: smart, stylish, interesting, and super fun. i really wanted to have a wonderful birthday and it happened through this trip. this year has been a major transitional period in my life and i have grown a ton, which is great. but sometimes growing is hard and i just needed a vacation from it all. i needed a change of scenery, if only for a couple of days.  it was nice to leave everything behind, meet new people, and let loose in palm springs for the weekend. we kept saying “what happens in palm springs stays in palm springs.” but that wasn’t really the case considering we all blew up instagram like it was going out of style.

this trip really was the perfect way to ring in 32!

black & tan.

there’s nothing like a blazer to make me (and my day) feel more put together. it’s been one of those days. hell, it’s been one of those weeks! and this outfit has me wishing i was sipping on a black & tan instead of merely wearing it. sheeesh, this girl needs a break. i’m so ready for the three day weekend and i’m hoping it’s filled with biking, cooking, listening to records, taking photographs, and above all, sleeping in. a museum day and/or visit to the botanical gardens will definitely be thrown into the mix as well. ah, we’re almost there. enjoy!

thrift shoppers of the world unite and take over.

okay, i will be the first to admit that i’m not the thrift shopper i once was. however, i still couldn’t resist ripping off morrissey’s lyrics and making them cater to this blog post, haha… total nerd! anyway, yesterday was such a lovely day! anne and i went for coffee at philz, hit some thrift shops, and grabbed lunch and dinner. let me tell you anne was HOT at the thrift stores and i, on the other hand, was not. she found me the cutest (almost new) bcbg maxazria skirt for 7.50 and the cutest high waisted plaid skirt for herself for 6.50! it’s finds like those that make me want to run out to the thrift stores again today with my good luck charm anne, haha. to be fair, i did find her a pair of super cute vintage wedges at thrift town. i’m really going to hit the thrift stores more often (with claritin ready to go… the dust is killer). it’s time to get a little thrifty and live up to my blog title! i think i may need to drag brian out for some coffee and thrifting today… round two.

as for the rest of the weekend, i need to prepare for getting back to the grind. i already got a great deal of lesson planning done the other night but i still have some activities and notes to create. i’ll be teaching the stranger, the metamorphosis, the crucible, and reviewing the ap winter break reading, the scarlet letter. i’m going to be one busy english teacher. this vacation was much needed and very rejuvenating, so i think i’m ready to go back on monday. have a good weekend! shoes

i’m so tired! only three more days (including today) and then i have two weeks off! thank goodness. but i have at least 75 more essays to grade before i get my much needed vacation. anyhoo, last night i took a break from working and headed over to meet some friends at the cinch saloon on polk street. we needed to meet up to hash out the details for our little holiday party this saturday night. it was cold and i was exhausted, so jeans and a sweatshirt were all i was feeling up to wearing. the layers kept me warm though. now back to essay grading i go… wish me luck!

it’s not officially winter yet, but it sure does feel like it! it’s been so cold and rainy this weekend and apparently a storm is on the horizon. but honestly, i don’t mind. when it’s cold like this it’s the perfect excuse for simply bundling up and watching movies at home, which is what i spent most of this weekend doing aside from working. as a matter of fact, i’m taking a quick break from finishing my ap lit final to write this post. so it’s going to be a quick one, haha!

i’m so excited that winter break is just a few days away. brian and i plan to complete a diy project on an old desk we have. we really need an organized and functional office space, so fixing the drawers and painting the desk will be the first step in that direction. i’m also looking forward to sleeping in, baking, reading, organizing, and just relaxing for two whole weeks. but there’s still a ton to do before friday so i’d better get to it. have a wonderful week!

p.s. i’ve realized that much of the time i just discuss what’s going on in my life and neglect to talk about my outfit. so here are some outfit notes:

1. i really like the wintery feel this outfit evokes (especially the chistmas-y evergreen skirt paired with heather grey).

2. oh yeah, about the skirt… it was free! i got it last summer as a buy one get one free sale item at forever 21.

3. these heather tights and athletic tee are major winter staples for me. the tights are super warm and the tee is a season spanning/layering favorite.

tata for now, y’all!
