yesterday was so much fun! anne, rachel, amy, and i spent the better part of the afternoon in dolores park eating snacks and drinking wine. it was the perfect way to kick off summer. i can’t wait to go on some trips with my gals. we’re all excited about summer and the positive changes headed our way. so naturally, we had a mini celebration in the park. cheers to friendship and new beginnings.
today was such a lovely day! the weather was so nice that brian and i headed out to the beach where we walked around, grabbed lunch, and snapped some photos. it’s so awesome that we were able to dress so lightly and go to the beach in the middle of winter. i sure do love california “winters”.
this weekend was really relaxing which is exactly the way i like it. friday night brian and i went on a date to gracias madre for dinner and then caught up on crap tv (a favorite pass time of mine when i’m absolutely exhausted and just want to zone out). then, saturday night we had friends over for dinner (pasta, dill and roasted garlic white bean dip and veggies, rosemary focaccia, and a yummy salad) and a movie. aside from heading to the beach and hanging around the apartment, i also ran seven miles and got some “spring” cleaning done. all in all, this weekend was the perfect balance of relaxation and productivity!
can i just say i’m so glad it’s saturday? i’m so happy that i’m just sitting on the sofa and typing a blog post wrapped in a cozy sweater, especially after an extra busy week of teaching. i realize i have never mentioned what i do for a living on the blog. i’m an english teacher! so my week was filled with preparing literary period power points (specifically on romanticism/dark romanticism and realism), writing final examination study guides, and grading like a mad woman.
i’ve decided that it’s time to reveal more about myself beyond the outfits i wear and the foods i eat. haha! i’m always curious to know what other bloggers do outside of writing their blogs. so just in case you’re curious, i currently teach advanced placement literature and composition, american literature, and european literature. at this point in my career i can honestly say that i love what i’m doing. this is my sixth and best year teaching. my day is spent instructing students on how to look at literature with a critical eye and write with a convincing and stylistic voice. it’s been pretty awesome lately. however, i’m not trying to paint the picture that my job is all peaches and cream. working in public education can be tough! but i like being in the classroom educating students so the good outweighs the bad (ahem… politics) most of the time.
anyhoo, winter break is just around the corner and i’m very excited about it! today brian and i are going to get our christmas tree and i can’t wait to get it home and decorate it! a couple of friends are going to drop by to help decorate the tree (if i don’t finish before they get here. hehe), play games, and eat lentil stew. mmm. have a relaxing weekend!

thanksgiving is getting closer which means the biggest shopping day of the year is fast approaching! will you be out there in the crazy that is black friday or will you shop online? last year anne and i got up early-ish and went into the madness but didn’t last long. we can’t deal with the crazy crowds. so we’ve scheduled an online shopping date! yep, we haven’t even made it down to socal yet or celebrated the holiday and i’m already worried about where and when the shopping will take place (fitting title, huh? haha). happy thanksgiving and shopping!
i love 70’s style! how about you? this mini dress hollered at me when i was shopping around at therapy. the print, colors, and cut on this vintage inspired frock really reminds me of that era. and my bag makes me wish i could go back in time and raid bianca jagger’s accessory collection (i’m sort of obsessed with bianca and mick’s style from the days of studio 54!).
one of my favorite things to do stylistically is incorporating something vintage into my outfits as often as possible. lately, that’s happening in the way of handbags and clutches.
me + vintage bags = BIG trouble.
today was the first morning i actually shot an outfit before going to work. it wasn’t too bad. brian was so sweet to take the photos for me. maybe this will start an outfit shoot in the morning trend.
so i just have to say i’m jazzed about this opi nail polish called mermaid tears. i love the color and the name. i’m pretty sure it’s my new favorite. i also love orange!
what about you? orange you mad about orange this spring?
i couldn’t resist. yep. total dork.
