yesterday i spent the afternoon at the de young with some friends. i was waiting for the david hockney exhibit for a couple of months so i was really excited to check it out. it was amazing! seriously, i was smiling the whole time. as a matter of fact, i think i’m going to have to check it out a second time before the exhibition ends in january. going to museums is a favorite pastime of mine. therefore, i finally took advantage of the teacher discount and got a membership to the de young and the legion of honor. now i can go as often as i want and special exhibits will not cost nearly as much. also, i figure when i start graduate school (still applying… stressful) i can study at the cafe and then walk around the museum afterwards. win/win.
i thought this graphic rainbow colored painting was the perfect backdrop for an outfit shot. ah, i wish i could hang it in my apartment. anyway, i’m off today so it’s time to take advantage of the weather and go for a hike. tata!
it’s been a little bit since my last post. i’ve been as busy as can be: grading, running, spring cleaning like no other, and street selling (not too much luck on this go round). things have been going quite well lately (finally got the desk all finished) and i’m looking forward to so many cool adventures coming up. our friend adrianna is visiting soon (can’t wait to show her sf), we’re heading to nyc in about three weeks, and i just recruited a bunch of friends to run bay to breakers again this year. woo-hoo! lots of fun events to come. ah, spring is almost here.
as for the rest of the weekend, i’m planning on making a slow cook soup tomorrow and taking a longer run. i need to start upping my milage in preparation for bay to breakers and another half marathon in june. a full marathon is not happening. i was trrrippin’! as long as i beat my race times from last year i’ll be happy. so basically i’m in competition with myself!
i just got back from a weekend trip to san luis obispo. anne‘s family invited me to join in on their little trip down the central coast. it was nice! we dropped by the mission and a museum, visited quant beach towns, and shopped around a bit. i found some really good deals while shopping in downtown san luis obispo so i was pretty excited about that! i found a black chiffon maxi skirt at urban outfitters and a pretty shift dress from gap. both are great basics that fit well and were super reasonable (about 15 bucks each). i’ll be taking the maxi skirt to nyc next month. it will be great to wear over doubled up tights. oh and that brings me to another point (or promise i’m making myself). no more shopping for clothes/accessories until nyc… no matter how good the deal may be. i’m officially on hiatus!
i know you might be thinking “enough with the stripes already, girl!” but i can’t help it… i have a sea of stripes in my closet and i love them all. i decided to take a spring/summer dress and remix it for the sunny yet chilly weather. all the dress needed was a bright sweater and my favorite grey tights and i was on my way. get ready to see more remixing on the blog. brian and i are going to nyc in march and i would like to stop (or majorly cut back) on shopping so that i can do some there. can’t wait for that! tons of beautiful clothes and fashionable new yorkers… sign me up!
classic pieces tend to stay in my closet and in constant rotation in my sartorial world. in this post i’m wearing some of my all time favorite pieces: my peter pan collar sweater, boyfriend denim, coach willis bag in mahogany, and navy ferragamo’s. of course, the look is topped off with pearls and a top knot- simple and classic. i love pieces that go the distance in both quality and style. so i’m slowly building a closet of classics. what’s your style m.o.?
i’m pretty excited about my next post which is unique from any other post i’ve done thus far. hint: exteriors will meet interiors. have a good day!

well today was my first day back after a two week vacation and i’m exhausted! for some reason or another, i can never sleep the night before we return from break. i’m so anxious about the next day and i just toss and turn all night. well, until about 3 or 4am at which point i fall asleep and have to wake right back up within a couple of hours. the whole thing is beyond frustrating! it’s funny how one can toss and turn most of the night away- i mean can’t sleep a wink until it’s just about time for the alarm to go off and then somehow deep sleep kicks in. somehow my brain shuts down in the wee hours of morning. seriously, i could have slept the entire morning away but nope had to get moving and guzzle copious amounts of coffee in order to do so. it’s completely ridiculous too because what the hell am i so worried about anyway? i’ve been teaching for six years now in my own classroom and have worked in public schools for much longer. i know what to expect. i guess i’m just expecting the unexpected. does that ever happen to you? ultimately, nothing out of the ordinary happened and it was a really good day. will the same thing happen the night before spring break ends? more than likely. ugh, lame. i guess that’s what naps are for. so it’s nap time!
p.s. my apologies in advance for any errors in this post. i’m sleep deprived! night-night.
this outfit makes me feel like i should be sitting in a ski lodge somewhere sipping on hot coco. but since i’m not headed to a ski lodge any time soon i wore this downtown. i really like the combination of stripes and chevron. about the chevron scarf… i bought it over ten years ago on super sale at j.crew. it’s practically vintage, or will be soon enough! my vacation has been so relaxing. i’ve been hanging out in the apartment (possibly verging on hermit status) watching music documentaries on joy division, the smiths, and the “importance of being morrissey” (brian asked me if that was really the name of the documentary. haha! freakin’ morrissey). so yeah i’m a real snore these days unless it comes to eating and watching documentaries on brit bands. then i’m glad to make some food and obsess over cute brit boys (i.e. ian curtis). i’ve actually been cooking quite a bit and its been nice to have a couple of friends over to eat some home cooked meals.
however, i did get out of the apartment today to do some shopping downtown with anne. the parking lot was so packed that we had to park on the top floor of the parking structure, but it was pretty awesome because we got to snap some cool photos. anne took the outfit photos of yours truly and i took the rest (her outfit is so cute!). i love taking out my little point and shoot out and about! it’s so convenient and i can capture moments in the sky like these. happy new year!
