wow this is the first outfit post that has gone up in a really long time. i’m gonna have to do something about that! i’ve decided i’m going to try to be less lazy about it. that will require me to wear something other than overalls (it’s gotten a bit out of hand), bust out my tripod, and/or annoy my friends by asking them to snap the photos (thanks for taking these rachel and amy). anyway, i found this dress while digging through the clearance section at target one summer afternoon. but given the fact that it’s generally cold in sf during the summer i couldn’t really wear it until recently.  i decided it would be the perfect dress for ryan and eddie’s wedding (congrats, boys!). they had the coolest wedding at the russian river. a bunch of us stayed a few days and made a vacation out of it. we all really needed it. ah, i can’t wait to go back.

new york navy.

while in nyc i was all about navy… as usual!  new york was pretty awesome. i had never been there before and i wondered if i would have the itch to move there after visiting. i came to the realization that i could do it for a year if i was a trust fund baby and i could come back to my sf apartment after my adventure on the east coast came to a close. i’m dreamin’. point being- i love nyc, but i’m a san francisco girl through and through. while visiting i stayed with my friends erika and beau. they showed me all around manhattan and brooklyn. we visited museums, central park, soho, the chelsea market, greenwich village, williamsburg, and much more. i can’t wait to go back for another visit. but i think it’s going to be awhile until that happens. sigh.

well so long 2012 and hello 2013! i have to say 2012 was quite a good year for me filled with several firsts. i ran my first sf half marathon and bay to breakers race, started this little blog, brian and i celebrated our ninth year of marriage, and started teaching the ap literature class which i thoroughly enjoy. i’m looking forward to the new year too. being the goal oriented person that i am i have some goals i would like to accomplish this year: a blog redesign (have no clue at this point as to how or when), another big run (i’m not sure i can commit to a full marathon but i’m thinking about training for one… if not, another half for sure), and i want to strengthen my ap lit and comp curriculm. oh, and brian and i would like to start playing music together again. lots of plans so we shall see what pans out but i’m excited nonetheless. now, it’s time to head out to golden gate park for my friend’s birthday picnic. happy 2013!

outfits notes: 1) i’m obsessed with rust. 2) i got these olive booties 45% off of the sale price at anthro… yes! 3) this was my new year’s eve outfit. tata!

can i just say i’m so glad it’s saturday? i’m so happy that i’m just sitting on the sofa and typing a blog post wrapped in a cozy sweater, especially after an extra busy week of teaching. i realize i have never mentioned what i do for a living on the blog. i’m an english teacher! so my week was filled with preparing literary period power points (specifically on romanticism/dark romanticism and realism), writing final examination study guides, and grading like a mad woman.

i’ve decided that it’s time to reveal more about myself beyond the outfits i wear and the foods i eat. haha! i’m always curious to know what other bloggers do outside of writing their blogs. so just in case you’re curious, i currently teach advanced placement literature and composition, american literature, and european literature. at this point in my career i can honestly say that i love what i’m doing. this is my sixth and best year teaching. my day is spent instructing students on how to look at literature with a critical eye and write with a convincing and stylistic voice. it’s been pretty awesome lately. however, i’m not trying to paint the picture that my job is all peaches and cream. working in public education can be tough! but i like being in the classroom educating students so the good outweighs the bad (ahem… politics) most of the time.

anyhoo, winter break is just around the corner and i’m very excited about it! today brian and i are going to get our christmas tree and i can’t wait to get it home and decorate it! a couple of friends are going to drop by to help decorate the tree (if i don’t finish before they get here. hehe), play games, and eat lentil stew. mmm. have a relaxing weekend!

thank you!

i wore this outfit on thanksgiving, mainly because it was so dang comfortable (and this simple blouse is one of my favorites)! these photos were snapped outside of brian’s parents’ house down in socal (minus the bottom two that were taken at my mama’s house). we has lots of fun and interesting moments while visiting back home. it was so nice spending time with family, taking photos, and filling our bellies full of mashed potatoes, salad, stuffing, and all the other sides. yep, no turkey for us! it’s always great seeing family and old friends… they are hard to leave each time, but it’s always nice to be home in sf with our kitties.

now for the most important part of the post (i saved the best for last): i’m about to hit my one year blog anniversary in a few days and i have to say that it has been such a fun experience writing a blog, reading blogs, and being part of the blogging community. i have experienced such welcoming and wonderful feedback and comments from people and that means so much. in a world with so much negativity, it is so refreshing to have such a creative outlet with a positive community of writers and readers alike. i remember people used to say they loved blogging because they made friends through their blog and i thought okay “internet friends”. but it’s so true. sometimes when i’ve had a complete and total shit day it can really be turned around by reading a funny or inspiring blog post or by having conversations with other bloggers who enjoy sharing personal style, food, inspiration, and photography! so i want to say thank you to my readers! this may sound super cheesy but i’m truly grateful for those of you who have made this new experience of blogging a fantastic one. so in short, besides being thankful for my awesome husband and best friend brian, family (thanks moms for cooking yummy thanksgiving feasts! i love you both!!), and friends, i’m thankful for you, your feedback, and positivity. thank you! thank you! 🙂

p.s. i meant to post this on or before thanksgiving. sometimes even my best laid plans fall through. better late than never, right? haha. hearts!

today brian and i had a relaxing little sunday filled with brunch, mimosas, a walk through the neighborhood, and naps. it was so nice! but now it’s time to start getting everything organized for our road trip down south. i’m so excited that we’ll be celebrating the holiday with family and friends in just a couple of days. well, i’d better hop to it seeing as i have an intimidating pile of laundry calling my name.

mmm, tofurky day is getting closer (i already got started yesterday with a pumpkin spice cupcake)… happy thanksgiving week, y’all!
