down by the river.

wow this is the first outfit post that has gone up in a really long time. i’m gonna have to do something about that! i’ve decided i’m going to try to be less lazy about it. that will require me to wear something other than overalls (it’s gotten a bit out of hand), bust out my tripod, and/or annoy my friends by asking them to snap the photos (thanks for taking these rachel and amy). anyway, i found this dress while digging through the clearance section at target one summer afternoon. but given the fact that it’s generally cold in sf during the summer i couldn’t really wear it until recently.  i decided it would be the perfect dress for ryan and eddie’s wedding (congrats, boys!). they had the coolest wedding at the russian river. a bunch of us stayed a few days and made a vacation out of it. we all really needed it. ah, i can’t wait to go back.

new york navy.

while in nyc i was all about navy… as usual!  new york was pretty awesome. i had never been there before and i wondered if i would have the itch to move there after visiting. i came to the realization that i could do it for a year if i was a trust fund baby and i could come back to my sf apartment after my adventure on the east coast came to a close. i’m dreamin’. point being- i love nyc, but i’m a san francisco girl through and through. while visiting i stayed with my friends erika and beau. they showed me all around manhattan and brooklyn. we visited museums, central park, soho, the chelsea market, greenwich village, williamsburg, and much more. i can’t wait to go back for another visit. but i think it’s going to be awhile until that happens. sigh.

brisk change.

sweater weather officially arrived mid last week which gave the city a true feeling of fall. before last week, we were experiencing this crazy hot-cold-hot-cold-hot-cold weather, which is the worst! the consistently crisp weather has definitely been a welcomed change. i love the fall days when the air has a bit of a brisk chill, the sun is out, and the sky is clear. and that’s exactly what we had all weekend! but i have to say one of the best parts about this weather is pulling out my sweaters and tights. i’ve had this cozy sweater tucked away in my closet, just waiting for the perfect time to make it’s grand appearance, since i purchased it at a street sale last summer. i think i paid 3 bucks for this awesome/had my name written all over it cardigan. yet, another reminder that i need to keep thriftin’ and shoppin’ street sales.

p.s. another positive change is my revived motivation! i met my goal of running 15 miles last week AND i’ve already started this week off strong. ch-ch-changes!

paisley days.

it was definitely time to bust out some paisley on this gloomy sf morning. this midi skirt was found at a thrift shop for a whopping four bucks when i was back home! another reminder that i really need to get back into the thrifting game. many of my favorite pieces, which i have kept for the longest about of time, were found in thrift shops for under five dollars. thrifting is back on my agenda! it’s good for my wardrobe and more importantly, my wallet.

sailor girl.

dress: birds of north america (b-day gift via hangr 16denim shirt: thrifted jones new york wedges: madewell (purchased at an additional 30% off sale price! woo-hoo!) sunglasses: ebay necklace: tiffany and co. (b-day gift) lipstick: clinique raspberry rush

okay so maybe i’m not a sailor girl. as a matter of fact, i don’t think i’ve ever set foot on a sail boat (what a shame!). but can i just say i’m super excited about this sailor girl style dress that my friends eddie and ryan got me for my b-day?! well technically they got me an awesome blouse adorned with polka dots, kitties, and a peter pan collar (this blouse was perfection!). unfortunately that rad kitty blouse didn’t fit me (boo!). but in the end, i found this awesome dress on super sale  and i’m SMITTEN over every single detail. the cut is flattering, the coral hue is so pretty and feminine, and the contrast of the sky blue stitching takes it over the top. oh and i can’t forget to mention the pockets! i automatically fall for any garment with pockets, so that’s clearly an added bonus. this dress was a freakin’ score and a half!

i’m so fortunate to have such thoughtful friends (thanks again, ryan and eddie!).  i’m also super stoked that finding this dress exposed me to the birds of north america clothing line. their dresses are unique and simple which i really like. you should check them out! yay for amazing friends and new dresses… and the upcoming weekend!

and yay-yay-yay-yay-yay to the san francisco weather gods for allowing us gals to wear summer dresses in the fall!

in the rose garden (part two).

i couldn’t resist adding another one of our fuzzy friends. we took far too many photos of the squirrels but they were so dang cute that we couldn’t resist.

cheers!

hey everyone! as i mentioned here brian, amy, and i went to the morcom municipal rose garden on sunday afternoon where they sipped on beers and i sipped on coca cola classic. i definitely recommend checking out this delightful garden! my plan is to return in may for a picnic when the flowers have just blossomed and are flourishing as far as the eye can see. the garden is peaceful, beautiful, and tucked away in a quaint oakland neighborhood. oh and another awesome point to acknowledge is that it’s free! which is always a plus in my book and i’m sure i’m not the only one. i’m not going to lie, the past few weeks have been stressful to say the least. so as i mentioned here i have been a major homebody which has allowed me to nest and decompress. but when i do decide to get out, i want to take in the fresh air and take in some scenic pleasures which fortunately there is a surplus of in the bay area.

amy was nice enough to let me take some style photos of her while we walked through the rose gardens. truth be told, i would love to use this blog to not only showcase my personal style, but to show a variety of perspectives on style and fashion- friends and strangers alike. here’s the problem: i don’t have the guts to ask people on the street. i think that the mission district (my neighborhood!) has some of the best street style in the city (oh, hayes valley has some stylish gals and gents as well). i guess i’m going to have to try to work up the courage to ask people and have them not think i’m a total weirdo. until that happens, if it ever does, i’m lucky enough to have some very stylish friends that give me permission to photograph them and post their sartorial choices. as far as amy’s look is concerned, i really appreciate this casual menswear inspired look, from the laid back cotton slack-style pants to the denim vest to the ankle booties. it’s a great look for her and it has inspired me to try some menswear inspired looks. these looks are all the rage right now! i love trends that are timeless and classic, reemerging time and time again and menswear inspired styles definitely meet that criteria.

i hope you enjoyed seeing amy’s outfit. she definitely has great personal style!

HOORAY it’s friday and it’s going to be a wonderful weekend! my cousin, melanie, has come to visit us and we’re so happy to see her. also, we’re having a small dinner party tonight which will be filled with yummy treats, drinks, and board games. i’m cooking so wish me luck (i will need it)! as for the rest of the weekend, the city will be packed with everyone out and about enjoying the pride festivities. it’s going to be so much fun! what are your plans for the weekend?!

 …

on saturday brian and i headed out to do some thrifting and grab some lunch. i was having one of those days when i just want to wear easy fitting, relaxed apparel without looking frumpy. when that happens i often venture over to brian’s side of the closet (or quarter of the closet to be more accurate) in search of one of his t-shirts or cardigans to steal for the day. then the rummaging through my bags and accessories begins. i ended up picking a faux croc bag i thrifted at the goodwill on haight years before i moved here. i still love the bag, which can be carried as a shoulder bag or a clutch- even better! i love two in ones, especially thrifted two in ones.

i was also excited to wear the layered gold necklace i thrifted from church mouse in sonoma. i thought it complemented the camel blazer quite nicely. and let me tell you, i love me some gold jewelry. so i may have oded on the gold a bit or is that even possible? in my book, i guess that’s a no. just call me mrs. t.
